Nomadic and restless both in his life and painting, Franco Cardinali (1926-1985) is a figure more than worthy of rediscovery considering the fame he enjoyed during his artistic career, which saw him associate with the greatest figures of the twentieth century, including Picasso, Cocteau and Prévert. Born in Liguria, Cardinali soon moved to locations where the beating heart of art attracted him, first Milan, then Paris and the Côte d'Azur. In search of a more genuine contact with nature, he later returned to Italy, settling in the Tuscan village of La Rocca della Verna, where he concentrated on new pictorial styles and ceramics. The abrupt end to Cardinali's life at the age of fifty-nine has left this highly gifted artist misunderstood. Now Milan pays homage to him for the second time, thirty years after the retrospective exhibition of his work at the Brera Academy.
